Came here because RIF shut down and I can’t believe how bad the regular reddit app is. Here’s hoping that Lemmy is the new reddit!

I did the exact same thing just today. Here’s hoping! I can see there’s growing pains, but that just means there’s growing to be done.

Same here. Tried the official reddit app and its bad. Even tweaking with the settings, the lack of many features is noticeable.

for our writing, we discovered no character limit (or one that counts properly…) and have started to move our content here. Even if it’s just a side or secondary site, it seems to work great.

I’ve tried using the official app for some of my favourite subreddits and it’s awful. A cluttered mess that’s difficult to navigate, the complete opposite of rif… Just gave up after a while. This place is looking promising though and I’m happy to see so many familiar communities already.

Yeah, I used Reddit exclusively through RIF. It was perfect for what I wanted out of the site.

A sad day. But now I’m here via Jerboa and like it a lot so far.

Thanks for the app, @talklittle. I purchased RIF back in 2012 and it has been the only way I’ve used reddit on mobile ever since. Sad to see it go.

I will miss RIF, and I cannot browse reddit without it. I am, however, looking foward to further interacting with the fediverse. I am just trying to remain respectful of places that other people created and established. Reddit was fun, but it was a mess (fake posts for karma, rage bait posts, harassment over the slightest little thing, people who couldn’t and wouldn’t intelligently articulate their view, etc). I’m hoping to not bring that here.

    RIP RIF

tbf i didn’t actually stop using redditisfun. I followed the guide to patching RIF with revanced which changes the user agent of the app to hide from reddit that you’re using redditisfun

    The instructions are here https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/14niwgu/revanced_patches_for_boost_infinity_rif_is_fun?sort=new

Gonna plug revanced here, too, since i already had revanced because i use it to have adfree YouTube and YouTube music with unlimited skips. Been using it since it was called vanced, when they just shared modified APKs. Then Google shut them down with a cease and desist letter so revanced was born. It’s a system for patching apps yourself which gives the developers a bit more legal cover.

RIF was my first Reddit app. I did move over to Boost a couple of years ago but RIF will always be my o.g. Android experience.

Thanks for all your work, talklittle - you improved a lot of lives, including mine, with this app.

11 years on Reddit and my mobile Reddit experience was 100% via RIF. No RIF. No Reddit on mobile for me (mobile was 95% of my Reddit use).

Like most of y’all came over when 429s hit up our beloved RIF. Hoping I can learn how to use this number n a similar way.

As an aside was the API rate limiting done earlier than anticipated? Thought it was a 7/1 thing and not a 6/30 @ 10p EST thing.

What was the 429 thing? I had that but then it stopped and RiF is working fine, just no logging in.

Http status 429 is too many requests. It is what the reddit api was responding with hours before they were supposed to

RIF is why I’m here, I deleted it from my front page, realized I hated going to the reddit website, and looked for something better.

I know he’s working on something different, for a different site, but I also hope he’s considering a LIF or something like that.

Had RIF for the entire time I’ve used Reddit, about 9 years. So so sad to see it go, signed up for Lemmy, let’s hope it picks up steam! RIP to RIF ♥️
