Smooth as fuck, you guys are absolutely killing it
Oh dang, I hadn’t even noticed till you pointed it out. It’s just so natural.
Well done!
What does this refer to? I haven’t seen any changes since this morning. Definitely 5*’d it easier though. Love this.
Are you on the TestFlight beta? The swipe to up/downvote animation is now fancier (the arrow direction flips with a little flourish) while being really smooth and clear.
Clever way to get people to upvote your comment…
I’m not, and that sounds FUN!
This change will be on the store most likely tomorrow 👍
Just wanted to pop in to tell you you’ve been killing it and I’ve been absolutely loving this app. Thank you!
Thank you!
Too bad I’m mostly up voting so I don’t get to see the smooth transition that often
Tangentially - It’s kinda refreshing to see how many 0 downvotes comments have on here. Are downvotes hidden or are people nicer here?
My downvotes always return an error message, not sure if that’s just me or a larger issue.
Does your instance have them disabled? I might need to do a check for that. Some instances don’t allow downvoting.
Wow I didn’t even consider that, I’ll have to check.
I get the same error when I accidentally downvote (I often slide too far since I’m on an iPad) and the instance I’m on definitely has downvotes disabled.
Ok cool. Probably an issue with that then. When you sign in, I’ll query the instance to see if downvotes are disabled and if they are I’ll disable them in-app too. Can’t promise next update but I’ll make sure it gets fixed.
It’s all good, whenever the fix comes is fine, you’re already super on top of things. 😄
Agreed about the downvotes. I’ve seen few, and it’s usually outright trolls. I’ve seen good discussions too, despite disagreements, it’s all generally positive. I hope it stays this way.
I have to say I was expecting configurable swiping like collapse comment trees (swipe left) and go back (swipe right) that I’ve been using in Apollo. I keep (down)voting on accident.
I’d rather be able to vote only by tapping arrows which atm collapses the comment.
Wish I could swipe to go backwards and forwards instead though.
You can swipe to go back, though, just not forward.
Ooh ok I didn’t know that. If that’s the case I wish I could disable other swipe gestures! I’d rather use swipe to navigate than to vote/comment!
Same lol
If you swipe right all the way from the edge of your screen, you trigger the navigate gesture instead of vote gesture.
I often mess it up tho or accidentally vote when scrolling. In Apollo I ended up disabling the vote gesture because of that
Yeah I just want to be able to customize swipe actions!
Hey all. I’m the dude who implemented the new vote animations and really appreciate all the love it’s getting. I’m hearing two main pain points in the posts today:
- Some people are finding it difficult to swipe to go back.
- Some people would like to disable it entirely.
Both understandable. Swipeable rows can sometimes impede a nav-back gesture unless you’re swiping from the very edge of the screen. I’ve seen a couple techniques to try and help with this which i can investigate.
As for point 2, I’ll leave the prioritization of that up to @gk, but the plus side is from an implementation perspective it will be very simple to do.
There’s a couple other small improvements I’d like to make to the voting/commenting animations as well. One should help with devices which either dont have haptic or have it disabled.
Cheers!
Unless you use an ipad that has no haptic feedback. I keep downvoting things I intend to upvote. The size of the upvote swipe area is way too small without haptics.
I keep trying to upvote via the little arrows but either my fingers are too big or I keep missing, because I collapse the comments instead. Swiping is the only way I CAN vote.
As a fellow lefty I feel like upvoting via swipe toward the right is optimized for us. Lol.
I’ll do something so that it’s reversed for all you guys out there ❤
I was trying to say using my left thumb to swipe from left to right to upvote feels very natural and smooth, so it’s already perfect for lefties imo. Thank you so much for this app btw. I’ve only left a few app reviews in my 13 years of using iOS and I definitely left a 5-star review for yours with a blurb touting its ease of use, solid Apollo-esque UI, etc. Cheers.
I agree, the app is beginning to feel a lot like Apollo. Biggest compliment I can think of.
Will customizable swipes/gestures be added? Swiping to collapse comments has become such muscle memory for me lol
Yeah, just don’t shake the thing too much. It’s gets kinda confused…
Ha! It does. I know what’s wrong and will fix it after i get some sleep.
That’s hilarious, it really does invert them after shaking
Yea. It’s something i noticed when first developed and thought “meh, whatever.” The problem is that rotating it 180 degrees, regardless of where the arrow starts/stops. So if you cross the thresholds back and forth quickly prior to the animation completing, well, the arrow starts to skew.
Funny bug. I almost wanna keep it and have the arrow turn into a frowny face if a person does that. But animating SVGs isn’t something I’ve invested much time in learning yet.
Will swipe to save come back? I loved that feature to save comments.
So… I’m using Connect on Android, but I just learned I can swipe here too, so thanks.
I was waiting on which app on Android brings the swipe between posts feature first and Connect has brought it first. Connect used to be mine 4th option app but now it is my main app lol. Devs doing great job.
Seriously, this dude is pushing out multiple updates a day for the past week I’ve been here. CONNECT DEV IF YOU’RE READING THIS PLEASE GET SOME SLEEP.
It has gotten noticeably better in a super short period. Rest my dude, you’ve earned it.

Memmy is an iOS app, I’ve heard good things about Jerboa though?
Use wef wef for Android
In theory, you should be able to build it yourself for Android. See their GitHub.
Not sure if it works well though. 🫤
I just used that sweet new swipe experience to upvote this post.
It’s way more like Apollo now, which I absolutely love!
