It’s common for corporate restaurant chains to tear down previous buildings (including former restaurants). Not only to make infrastructure and energy saving improvements, but also to get rid of established vermin and bug infestations.

You’re right. And tbf, all the new Dutch Bros I’ve seen have replaced really jank drive-thrus.

It’s just sad seeing something trashy and car-oriented replaced by something that is just as car-oriented and will soon be just as trashy.

I won’t even go to Dutch Brothers because the local franchise owner is a bigot. That and buying coffee to go is a waste of money. The point of going to a coffee shop is supposed to be more than just the coffee.

American living in the Netherlands for 25 years - we don’t simply tear “old” down to build new. My home is over 200 years old, and only the McDonalds have “drive thru”s.

Please don’t generalize if you’re not completely sure of what you’re talking about.

As racist as the Dutch are, they sure have it right when it comes to building bicycle centered infrastructure, and Dutch Bros really is the opposite of that. The vibe of the place really fits the chain’s hometown of Grants Pass, OR though, which is a CHUD town pretending to be hip, laid-back and outdoorsy.

Really curious, why do you perceive the Dutch as racist? I have made quite the opposite observation, coming from a german (but i am also speaking dutch) viewpoint. Judging from the racism situation in Germany, the Netherlands is less racist and less polarized on racism than us

Perception is probably due to holding on to minstrel imagery with Zwarte Piet. Not something I care about personally but it’s an obvious perception hit internationally.

As a darker skinned individual, it seems average here which I consider to be not so bad in modern timbres.
