…which is not, despite the name, a government agency.

    There it is.

The earlier stories (or headlines) left me wondering how they were going to blatantly get around the humongous conflict of interest.

that function is literally part of the gao’s mission.

i can already read the future headlines:

government accountability office (gao) report states musk-led ‘efficiency department’ is needless waste of public funds.

      followed two days later by:
trump sacks gene dodaro, comptroller general and head of government accountability office.

One. Trump can’t fire the Comptroller. They report to Congress.

Two. Trump will get to select the next Comptroller on December 22 of 2025. So it’s kind of a moot point.

Exactly. The Ministry of Truth says _________ (fill in the blank as needed.)

It will sound like a government agency is providing recommendations, but in truth it’s whatever Elon says.

It won’t have government employees or have to follow government rules. It’s just an expensive government contractor with no rules. It won’t have to prove itself. Just “the algorithm” that has the answer to any problem. How did it arrive at that answer? Difficult to say, it’s proprietary. Assuming any accountability, it won’t be uncovered until years after the decision has already been made.

I’m so torn right now, debating on whether or not to uproot my life and move to the EU so I can get away from this insanity and watch the country burn from the sidelines, or stick around and see if enough of us can collectively get our asses in gear and steer this ship out of the shitstorm we’re now driving into.

seems to me that they got every thing they paid for them and it was a good price to pay.

not sure what meaning, if any, being “85% down”, has in that context.

This? Is all y’all’s fault who were against Neuromancer being required reading for middle school on up. I mean, fuck, we barely have Fahrenheit 451 in the curriculum. Way to pull the rug, ya fuckin’ blue-haired bootstrappers. I hope you live long enough to experience the horror you stepped aside for. 🥰🤦🏽‍♂️
