It says “unnatural facial expression” under the smiling photo.
Have you not had a passport before?
MOST countries enforce a neutral expression.
Driver’s license too, at least here in Canada
The person at the DMV was confused why I was staring blankly (actually not, just a neutral expression) when taking a photo for my license. She told me that it’s ok if I wanted to smile. It’s weird how you’re allowed to have a non-neutral expression on driver’s licenses in the US.
They also let you just fill in whatever for height and weight, I’m surprised they even care about gender and age
Weird the last two states I’ve gotten a license in both had me either not smile at all or “only smile a little bit”
Not in Nova Scotia, a friend texted me a joke and I couldn’t stop smiling. It was accepted.

Not a meme, this is common practice in the EU and elsewhere
The funny part is that this is an “unnatural expression” according to this gov website.
I wrote it in the description but people seem to miss it.
It is an unnatural expression though, a natural expression would be how your face looked without you trying to change anything. ie. a straight face
I think this comes a translation/wording issue. They probably mean a “neutral” expression, which is what your comment describes. I’d think of an “unnatural” expression as an exaggerated smile or something else off putting
No, “nienaturalny” literally translates to unnatural. Of course I know what they meant by that, but it’s funny because life is hell here.
This play on words is really struggling to find an audience.
I wanted you to know I appreciated it.
Thank you ☺️
