I just love how they keep claiming these YUGE cuts…only to find out that they misread it, or that the cuts got rid of something critical. For a Department that talks about “Efficiency”, their track record is fucking abysmal.
There is always some waste in every bureaucracy because real life has grey zones. Cutting out every little shade of grey and you risk a lot of people who need help to fall through the cracks. Better ways to be more precise just ends up costing more than you save because it in often leads to more rules and manpower.
Not that Elon cares. The real reason they’ve or him there is to make a mess of it so afterwards private corporations can pick up the pieces for cheap and build privatized services. Basic oligarch behavior.
To be fair, Medicare, Medicaid and ‘health’ in there could be massively less expensive, but not by virtue of cutting into the system as-is, but rather by redesigning it with a centralized gov-owned and managed insurance system (i.e. socialized medicine as all modern countries do)

Also, the people protesting against Vietnam when they were 20 are in their 70s and 80s now, a lot of them are still showing up at BLM protests, abortion protests, and antifascist protests…the rich are the real enemy, they want us all blaming each other instead of them. TLDR news did a piece on DOGE and the emphasis on counting errors was really funny.
But if you look at the comments there are plenty of people who are more than glad to cherrypick and extrapolate and pretend like the numbers are real and actual work is being done.
Medicare can easily be cut actually.
By implementing universal healthcare and abolishing the middlemen.
