Its serving patriotism not nationalism
Patriotism is an expression of nationalism in which there’s stirring music and a giant national flag in the background.
I think this is like saying chemistry is just applied physics which is just applied math, so chemistry doesn’t matter or is less.
There’s a distinction.
I’m not proud to be Canadian because I hate others or think less of them. I’m proud to be Canadian because I feel as a country we stand for good things, and I am proud of my heritage here.
We have beautiful lands, thoughtful and talented people, good opportunities, and some fantastic traditions and idols.
We aren’t perfect, but I certainly am proud of our ideals and people.
Patriotism is “yay us”, nationalism is “fuck everyone else”. This video is most definitely the first.
