Trump falls back on false claim that non-citizen voting threatened his popular vote, despite data proving that it’s a lie

Donald Trump and Mike Johnson are pushing for federal legislation to ban non-citizen voting, which could end up disenfranchising eligible citizens. The effort also underscores how Trump and allies are already seeding doubts about this fall’s election.

It is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections. But new legislation backed by Johnson would amend federal law to require all voters to show documentary proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Currently, Americans who register to vote with a federal voter registration form are required to affirm they are a citizen and risk prosecution if they lie.

“We all know – intuitively – that a lot of illegals are voting in federal elections. But it’s not been something that is easily provable,” Johnson said on the steps of the US capitol on 8 May. He was joined by Cleta Mitchell, an ally of Trump who sought to overturn the 2020 election, and Stephen Miller, a top Trump adviser who has been behind some of Trump’s most anti-immigrant policies.

“We all know – intuitively – that a lot of illegals are voting in federal elections. But it’s not been something that is easily provable,” Johnson said

Turns out it’s really fucking hard to come up with proof for things everyone - intuitively - knows are false.

Every fucking time the GOP forces voter fraud investigations it turns up more fraud from Republican voters than Democrats… the idiocy of their voting base is the only reason they keep hawking this bullshit.

You know what undocumented people generally do? They don’t break laws, because any infraction can end with deportation.

Cause/effect thinking is surprisingly hard for some

Edit: to clarify, I mean people who don’t understand or believe what you are saying

Put another way, there is a very strong incentive for undocumented people to be as law-abiding as possible.

Specific to this “illegals voting” nonsense, if there had been enough undocumented people voting in a presidential election to impact the outcome, some of them would have been caught.

So far as I am aware, there are zero cases of an undocumented person even attempting to vote. Anywhere, ever.

My wife’s legal, but not a citizen. She doesn’t fuck around with the law, not the tiniest bit.

One of the questions in the application for citizenship is if you ever voted in a local, state or federal election. So they will be giving up their chance to become a citizen if they vote illegally.

      Doubt

But it’s not been something that is easily provable.

You can’t prove it, you mean. Because it isn’t happening. You can tell because they are blaming the ethereal ‘illegal’.

Johnson and Trump putting their feelings. first. And their little wittle feefee’s tell them they’re special and deserve to rule over you. Fuck their feelings.

This reminds me of the Sandy Hook depositions.

One of the admins for Infowars was being deposed and was asked, “How come, even with all the evidence showing that it wasn’t staged, did you keep pushing the narrative that it was?”

The woman took no pause and said, “Because it felt true!”

No reservation. No empathy. Just pure fear.

These people aren’t governing from facts. Which means that no amount of facts will deter them from their views.

No facts will convince them that they are wrong.

They are right. More importantly, they are righteous. And they will stop at nothing until they get their way.

        That’s what makes them dangerous.

      We all know

I have rarely found statements that start with this phrase that are, in fact, things we all know.

If you know something but you can’t explain it. You don’t know it, you believe it.

    “Unfounded fears.” “False claims.”

Just do us all a favor and say that Trump LIES, non-stop, every fucking time he opens his mouth. He lies like you and I breathe.

That is a lot like saying, “we need to make it illegal for rodeo clowns to steal nuclear waste.”

The thing they want to ban is not actually happening, and if it was, it would already be illegal

Don’t you have an electoral card for voting? That can’t be issued to non-eligibles
