Instead of following this theme exactly, I’m honoring the only president to have Marilyn Monroe sing Happy Birthday to him.

I have not taken data on this, but I’m convinced that a well formed edge will last 60-70 shaves if a loaded strop (Cr2O3) is used every 10 shaves or so in addition to regular stropping with every shave.

I haven’t done a Black Watchday in a while. I forgot how good this trifecta is!

edge is showing first signs of wear after 24 uses

I tend to just want a new edge somewhere between 12 and 15 uses. I’m convinced that most razors can easily go 30-40 uses with a good starting edge and reasonable care with stropping.

Great scent on this trifecta. There’s an slight underlying smokiness to it that’s not in the notes but that I really enjoy.

Since the autumnal equiox was yesterday, I intended to use Autumn Ash yesterday. But I forgot. So I was definitely going to use it today … but I forgot.

I got a Covid-19 vaccine last night. Totally out of it today. Great shave this morning, though.

You’re way too much of a shaving nerd not to be a straight razor shaver.

I hear the excuses now: job, young family, house chores, time commitment, cost of razors …

But I know you’re a fellow RC flyer, and we both know the effort that takes. So …

I really like it. There are others that don’t, though. I load from the tub, overload the brush and face lather starting from pasty and ending where I like feel of hydration.

I don’t see a lot of Gentleman’s Nod used around here. The fragrance for Tusitala was created by a perfumer, and it shows. Lots of notes, but the scent is subtle and sophisticated. I like it a lot but think that the Parfum Extrait could be bolder. I used Brut yesterday so it could be that my nose has reverted to wanting mid-1960’s scent strength.

Today’s shave was a test shave of a razor that was sent to me for honing. I put a Jnat edge on it and this edge is just killer. Much of the credit for this result comes down to the lack of wear on the blade, great geometry, and steel (Solingen) that can take a great edge.

I think Alma fits the bill for today’s theme. It’s main notes are Rose and Passion Fruit, and this would be a very feminine scent were it not for the musk that is blended into the fragrance. This is very cleverly done. Soaps from WestMan are first class.

Thank you for suggesting this and sending it out. I really enjoyed it! Definitely up my alley. I loved the woodsy, outdoor take on a barbershop. Scent strength was perfect.
