To your point, the correct action is to just make your own instance and federate appropriately, but it is fair to say the core developers have expressed activist opinions that not everyone might agree with.

As you say, though, the developers have given us the tools with which to create our own houses. Why do you say it’s their house?
I mean regarding the largest, admin-coredev supported instances
