Why are alphabet letters in the alphabetical order?

My three year old niece jumbled up the order of alphabets yet again while singing them. I giggled and corrected her but she wasn’t convinced. With a puzzled look, she asked me ‘Why?’

    As someone whose primary language has a slightly modified latin alphabet, I always mess up the english one towards the end… y is way too far back
