minus-square@BluesF@feddit.uklinkfedilinkEnglish4•10 months agoLamps aren’t female in French, they’re feminine but this is purely grammatical and doesn’t imply any social gender. It’s just part of the word - see “fleuve” and “rivière”, both words meaning river, one masculine one feminine.
Really depends on your language. In french lamps are females for example.
