OK so pro tip, spoiler tags on Lemmy do not work anything like spoiler tags on Reddit
You have to do this instead:
::: spoiler text that goes next to the arrow text that appears when you expand the spoiler which is possibly multi line and can contain *formatting* :::which turns into

don’t forget to put two spaces before a line break so that markdown actually treats it as a line break!
personally I prefer the Reddit style spoiler tags but on Lemmy this is what we’ve got so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
