I am attempting to login to a kbin account on kbin.social and it simply isn’t working at all. Any tips or tricks? It would be a bummer if this app only worked with lemmy instances.
Last I’ve heard is kbin has yet to provide an API to easily allow developers retrieve information. The only app I’ve heard that will work for kbin is Artemis, but currently only providing a limited access to beta.
Is it just logging in though? I can see Kbin content and reply fine?
Yes exactly. Logging into a Lemmy instance (ex. Lemmy.world) account on Memmy is possible but logging into a kbin instance (ex. Kbin.social) not possible.
I’m pretty sure lemmy can see content for a kbin instance and vice versa.
Yes, lemmy and kbin can access content from one another (assuming instances aren’t blocked on each side).
Kbin works a bit differently than Lemmy. There is a boost button in addition to the upvote button. The boost will push the content up while upvote signified that you like the content. It also has microblogging which is closer to what Mastodon does. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an official API, so Hariette the dev of Artemis had to create her own that scrubs the site and gathers the content to display in the app.
Ah I see. I have gotten very used to boosting on mastodon.
Correct. I’m on the Artemis Beta. It’s moving forward but still behind compared to Memmy.
I assume Kbin has an entirely different api. Maybe Memmy can be updated to communicate with both, but I don’t think it current does that.
I just use a lemmy server local to me and subscribe to any Kbin communities that I’m interested in. Not really missing out on anything other than subscribing to mastodon/microblog accounts.
Like Mlem, Liftoff, and Thunder - Memmy is designed for Lemmy user accounts. I’m not aware of plans, if any, to make it Kbin compatible.
Kbin federates, so I can engage with posts on kbin.social. But I need a Lemmy account to do so.
There’s some Kbin-specific beta apps out there like Artemis, I would go and explore that.
