Why YSK: looks very similar and functions like Apollo, if you’re used to Apollo that’s a great app for you, even if you do not, it’s still one of the best apps for lemmy You can install the web app here: wefwef.app/settings/install or just use it on your browser here wefwef.app

I’ve been trying to help out with the app’s development and has been in a few conversations with the lead dev. Top notch dude! Has a really good vision for the app and is very good in handling all the community discussion.

It must be amazing if it’s taken you all the way down to 9%!

With your phone’s last dying breath an inescapable urge came over you to say something nice about wefwef. Then you stood up and finally flushed the toilet.

Sync for lemmy will be out in a month or so! Sync was easily the best looking Reddit app in excistence for Material You design. I’m sure Sync for lemmy will be the same.

It’s definitely currently the best app out there. However as an android user, the design paradigm feels very alien to me which makes me really miss Sync.

I’m curious what feels different to you? I came from Sync to Wefwef and it’s been a smooth transition for me. It reminds me of how the sync layout used to be which I never updated from when he switched versions so that may be it.

Swiping a post away to return to the feed view was huge for me. I also changed the font size, adapted the comment swipe behavior to my liking, disabled various buttons and enabled others. All features that make it feel different for me.

But I was more talking about the general look and feel of the app which perfectly fits iOS, but not Android. Android usually has a burger menu that opens a sidebar on the left which contains the settings while iOS apps tend to have it in the bottom bar. The login is also mostly in there which is also different from iOS. Things like that.

I agree with the Android thing, I have Android as well but maybe I’m less conflicted because I used to have Apollo on iOS before? 🤷🏻 IDK but this app looks fine to my eye and I can stand the lack of Monet/Material You for it…

Could you please include some body text as to why should people know this, and how would that help them? It’s our second rule. Thank you :)

I can’t get it to work with Kbin. It only has a list of Lemmy instances and it doesn’t recognise Kbin.

I don’t think there are any apps that support both Lemmy and Kbin currently. Artemis says they’ll eventually do both but not sure it’s usable now.

Last I checked Kbin didn’t have an API which is why you see fewer apps for Kbin I guess. Those that work do so by scraping the web pages. Maybe that’s changed in the meantime.

It’s surprisingly effective for what is basically a Web container, although it is worth noting it doesn’t work very well if you try and install it via Firefox.

My biggest issue with it is that it doesn’t run quite as well as a native app, because it basically runs inside of a browser, which might be something to watch out for if you have an older device (and if you have an old iDevice, it doesn’t work at all). It might end up being unusably slow.

What issues do you have running it via firefox? It seems fine for me, although I didn’t try with chrome

Personally, I found it to be very sluggish compared to the inbuilt browser/Chrome, and vulnerable to a weird bug that Firefox seems to have on my device, where the entire browser engine stops working if you multitask/switch between apps, being stuck on a blank black/white screen until you close and restart the app.

Yeah same for me, firefox install feels sluggish whereas it runs smoother and faster with chrome. Maybe it has to do with how every site is optimized for chromium browsers nowadays.

I also have this, and I often have to force-kill the entire Firefox app in order to make it come back to life.

I wish Firefox on mobile was overall just “better”

Suggested method is to “install” the app: go to Settings, there’s an option to install the app as a PWA there.

Unfortunately, that didn’t really work properly for me when using Firefox on Android, and still runs into all the issues. Judging by the little firefox icon it put in, it installed as a Firefox web application, effectively running within the Firefox container, meaning it’s still vulnerable to all the others that Firefox seems to have on my device.

Your instance was hit hard by the migration. This is normal. It’ll be better once Lemmy.world does some upgrades or once you move to another instance

You just make another account on a preferably smaller instance.

It’s a new account though, that means you’re not migrating anything.

I expect there will be some tools in the future which allow to migrate/sync your subscriptions between accounts at least but comments and posts will always be tied to the instance your account belongs to, I guess.

I just checked into this, it looks like this is not available on Lemmy as of yet. It’s available on Mastodon, and is an important feature, so it will likely be added in the future.

I would suggest creating an account on your new instance for now, considering it’s so early on. In the future I expect this to be added.

You cannot currently migrate your account from one instance to another. You can do so with a community, but not with your user account. This is something being talked about for a future version of Lemmy. In the meantime, there are tools and scripts out there that attempt copy data/subscriptions over from one account to another, but they are hit-and-miss
