Discord wants to help you monetize your server.
Every app has to do everything. Just the way it is now.
You get a walled garden! You get a walled garden! Everyone gets a walled garden!
For real though. I already have an app that does everything, my lovely #FireFox ❤️
Hopefully users push back hard enough on this bullshit that server owners decide it’s not worth the backlash to use these features… If not, I guess I’ll thin out my server list.
I doubt it. Users may already be familiar with these features and would see it a way to make processes more seamless. Server subscriptions would mean you don’t have to go through Patreon.
A viable Twitch alternative would be great, honestly, but Discord has a ways to go before they get there.
That’s actually an interesting point; if this was being used to provide alternate access to already subscription-based content, it’s somewhat more palatable. I was thinking in terms of previously freely available content being locked behind a paywall.
Okay. Time to start using Matrix and IRC then.
I’ve already moved back to IRC after my 8 years with discord. I tried Revolt, but I think I am just over the kinds of users and servers these platforms attract. IRC and fediverse fit the bill nicely.
Didn’t they already try something similar to this, was it Discord Game Store or something? That end up in failure.
This one is a more general store and seems more in line with what some creators already use Discord servers for. Subscriptions for access to content.
So basically competing with patreon?
The new Downloadables and Server Shop add to Discord’s server subscriptions as ways for creators to monetize their servers. Server subscriptions are getting an improvement, too: the company is adding tier templates to make it easier to decide what subscriptions to offer to your community.
Yes.
but why??? sounds dumb tbh
