To be fair, TOS didn’t really go hard on Spock+Chapel, but even being a doofus kid, I shipped it.

You could be right. It’s been many years since my last watch-through of TOS. And that last time I was super-focused on the set design and colors so I was only half paying attention to the dialogue.
EVERYONE shipped it. Erotic fan fics have been around for a LONG time.
Of course, most of them involved Spock and Kirk.
