Today’s Game is Old School RuneScape. I felt like shit after pulling an All Nighter last night for an Assignment so I didn’t want to start Nightmare mode of Episode 5 of Alan Wake. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Challenge. But I wasn’t in the mood for it today. On top of that my Usual Friends I play multiplayer were gone, so I decided to dick around in OSR by myself.

I don’t play very often (as you can see by my amateur armor and equipment) but I like the vibe of the game, and the Soundtrack is one of my favorites. I love how it sounds, specifically Newbie Melody, Yesteryear, and Sea Shanty 2. And the graphics have a charm to them I love with their rudimentary polygons.

I took the screenshot in a little village market I spawned in, before teleporting back to the usual spawn, and did a quest where I had to help this chef guy gather some things. Then I ran around the castle stealing boots. I then took a walk over to a big city and fought some bandits. Overall I think I got my relaxed day.

I’m hoping to get back to Alan Wake tomorrow, but the day after I think I’ll probably take it easy again because I’m going to a concert that’s running late.

Oh to start OSRS blind again like I was a kid (just RS at the time)

Good luck with the new account!

Aye, going into it now with the knowledge of where most stuff is has definitely taken some of the shine off. I’m currently playing it again though. It’s a bloody black hole that I can’t escape from long term.

I logged into mine a month or 2 ago and realized I was still in tutorial island. I had totally forgotten where I left my character! It was a fantastic experience to go through the F2P quests and leveling again.

I definitely get why RuneScape was so big back in the day and so many people wish to experience it blind again. It has this really cool feeling to it that I feel like could never be replicated again. It’s rare to come across something like that

For OP, and anyone else that wants to play this version of Runescape again, but fully offline and mobile (you can run it off a USB)!

I corrected my comment. I was talking about a fully open source version. This version does have online, and I’m sure some QoL, but I feel like you were thinking I was talking about the actual Jagex game. :)

I’ve worked a few times on similar projects, but I haven’t read into anything about how it works so don’t take my word as fact, but my assumption is that it’s rewritten from scratch so no code from Jagex is being used

In a forum talking about the new pricing someone else mentioned this as an alternative to a premium account. I keep meaning to give it a look at some point.

I love these slice of life type games that offer a variety of quests, trades, and places to explore. I know there are plenty of those as single player games but they’re infinitely more fun as MMOs where friends can hop in and join you.

Slice of Life MMOs just have this feeling where you’re living a second fantasy life. I know a lot of people get that vibe from Games Like Stardew, but it took RuneScape and FFXIV for me to understand what they what they were talking about. The community just makes it feel far more alive

Absolutely. NPCs are just wallpaper to me. They might as well not exist. It’s way more interesting to me to see real people.
