They’re always just glorified dehumidifiers, because the energy needed to achieve what they promise can never be adequately provided except direcrly from the power grid and then it is still magnitudes more efficient to simply find a water source and filter and provide that rather than whatever this nonsense is.

indeed, even the reverse osmosis filtration of sea water would be an order of magnitude more energy efficient.
Deserts further inland just need metal piping from external water sources and are dirt cheap to do relatively; especially at scale.
