I am on lemmy.world. In the last couple of days, I’ve been flooded with “comicsoutofcontext” contents. Nothing wrong with that, but why?

Some other times, it will be nsfw contents. And the next day, some other random community will flood my feed. Nothing wrong with that either.

But, I don’t understand how this all works. It seems that the priorization algorithm sometimes goes wild. Or maybe there are only hundreds of users actively posting and when some guy posts a batch, I’m flooded with it?

    I think it’s mainly the latter. You can block communities or the user or not that floods the feed. I blocked the comicsoutofcontext too.

    There are no recommendation algorithms like in YouTube or TikTok here, if posts that are alike and get sonewhat the same amount of high votes, you most likely will see them one after the other. There isn’t a way around it really.

    Anyways, it’s better if you subscribe to communities and mainly uss the subscribed feed along with a good algorithm like Scaled (gives a boost to posts in communities that aren’t as active as the others) or maybe just Active.

    I rarely use the All feed, only when I try to find new communities honestly.

    theres not a huge amount of content posted per minute across all instances. And it seems theres no rate limit in some places for how much can be posted. So a huge batch of stuff is just dumped into a community and it appears in a block in all/new

    This used to happen when new subs opened. Most of my feed was just them.

    My assumption was that as the sub grew the posts kept getting voted higher than any other on the sub and therefore pushed as top material relative to the subs normal amount of up votes.
