My parents contantly regurgitates propaganda from wechat about how democrats in NYC are letting homess people and migrants ruin everything.
We dont even live in NYC.
I told her to vote Harris and she did (she didn’t even know how to fill out a ballot I had to tell her how to) but then later she said “maybe we shouldn’t vote for democrats” because of the homeless shelters built near Chinese populations in NYC (which is a fair grivence, but I dont see how republicans are gonna solve it better). Abosolutely no independent thought and no critical thinking just parroting whatever the last person said.
She doesn’t understand that the “homeless” or “migrants” are just dogwhistles referring to people like us who maga republicans deem inferior.
I have southeast Asian war refugee family members. They have this idea that Reagan was a great guy because they got refugee status to come to the US back then. They vote straight Republican to this day. They don’t know the first thing about any candidate or policy or even the basic layout of the US government. Only concern is taxes and anything that seems to equal “more money in my pocket” and “stay away from the black people.” Whenever they see refugee crisis in the news, they tear up because they’re triggered by their own horrible suffering. They feel so bad for the refugees…😑
