I mean I felt helpless during the US election but I feel helpless when I hear stories like this as well. What on Earth am I supposed to do in cases like these?
People are like this because we all have flaws as humans and our education system has not kept up with technology. The only thing I can think of is to educate and help people realize things on their own. That inoculates them against being taken advantage of.
