"Eat or be eaten" is not always the way things are in nature. It can be beneficial for different species to team up and pool their capabilities. Cnidarians such as corals and anemones were already committing to this kind of biological joint venture with algae from the dinoflagellate group 250 million years ago.

    As someone with experience in marine fish and reef keeping… did they have to use Aiptasia anemones for this study?

    (If you’re wondering why that bothers me, in marine aquariums Aiptasia anemones are considered pests as they can harm fish and invertebrates alike and are really hard to get rid of without the use of nudibranchs, which don’t keep well in aquariums)
