They’re taking the bait again, FFS. This is exactly plays into the dismantling process set forth by Trump and DOGE.
Though there’s a law to ensure that Fed employees get back pay to cover the time of a shutdown, what happens when it’s prolonged? How long can a middle class family support not being paid in the meantime?
Which can hold out longer, the rich and mega-rich ruling class, or middle class families that are already saddled with inflation and job loss in a saturated market?
This will be the functional equivalent of starving out defenders in a castle.
The problem is that Republicans already have the votes to pass whatever budget they want: they just all have to agree. Kim is just saying that if Republicans can’t agree, Democrats shouldn’t help them like they have in the past.
House Democrats helped to pass CRs in the past because they also held the Presidency and the Senate, so a government shutdown would rightly be blamed on both parties. This time, though, Republicans own the whole enchilada. Why should Democrats help unless they get something tangible out of it in the budget?
Fair enough. I just hate watching this train wreck unfold in front of me.
I bet there are a lot of short term loan companies who’d love to “help” federal employees in their time of need
