    Howard pointed out that when a survey of shellfish in the Bering Sea was missed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Alaska’s $200 million snow crab fishery collapsed the following year. “Firing people like me will make it incredibly hard for NOAA Fisheries to fulfill its mission,” she said.

    This is the shit that these smooth brains don’t get about all these scientists studying esoteric stuff. They just can’t handle the simplest of abstractions away from “tax dollars spent staring at fish.”

    Luckily, I only rely on NOAA data out of curiosity, but I feel a bit sorry for those facing a hurricane surprize season.

    And they’ll keep at it until the weather people stop making up that it’s getting hotter. If they would just say “everything is ok, the weather is fixed now, we can go back to making money without feeling guilty” then they would stop getting fired. Easy problem to solve.
