Frankly, it’s in both the developer’s and the publisher’s interests to have the creator remain anonymous unless the developer is seeking the limelight or to use the fame to influence others or something similar. With notoriety comes the risk of personal criticism, harassment, and people judging your every move and recorded history. Sometimes, criticism and boycott is absolutely deserved, other times it might not be, but they should want to avoid that if possible regardless. For both the developer and the publisher, they may not want personal details or decisions by the creator to affect sales. Thinking of the controversies over Five Nights at Freddy’s or Minecraft’s creators’ publicized political views, or the targeted harassment at creators during the gamergate situation. Obviously, those things are not always IP or career destroying, but they create unnecessary challenges that could be avoided.
