It’s been largely out of the western media sphere these days due to the shit river that is Trumpistan, but Turkey’s dictator Erdogan has begun outright arresting political opponents prior to elections, and it has sparked a massive uprising in the country.. Protesters are currently being met with force and being arrested by the hundreds.
I’ve been fed a little bit of info from a friend who lives in Turkey, as of a few minutes ago police have begun using lethal devices (flare guns) against protestors too.
Turkey isn’t a real democracy anymore for around a decade now. While the US has always had its problems, and they have gotten worse over time, the situation has been massively worse in Turkey for a long time.
this has been true since erdogan’s reign started 11 years ago, at least the US got 4 years of weimar in-between

Member during Trumps first term, when Erdogan’s personal security detail terrorized Turkish protestors outside the white house? The US has been a shithole country the entire time.
While true, Erdogan has also been very supportive of Ukraine and Europe emerging as a power independent of America.
So, despite having spent the past decade destroying Turkish democracy, he may still be remembered more positively than Donald Trump.
