I’m not familiar with the concept of a pub. Moreover, this is virtual.

So need to understand the entire concept in a more detailed, story like manner.

It’s actually more like a post office than a pub :3

Activitypub is just a protocol that basically sends notifications between servers. It goes: “hey user on that server liked something on the other server - better let it know” and then the other server gets the notification, it processes what it means, and applies the like to the post… or comment or whatever other action

It’s kind of foundational to the idea of the fediverse, as it means no one group is ever in charge of the whole platform, as if any disagreements arise people can always start up other servers with different rules

The fediverse contains quite a few services besides lemmy :3 there’s mastodon, peertube, pixelfed and a bunch of others. I can’t name them all off the top of my head, and im at work so no time to look them up

They work* but not great. I can post to Lemmy from pixelfed or mastodon and see the top level comments but don’t seem to be able to reply or see sub comments. Pixelfed amd mastodon work well together, not sure about friendica or misskey
