Hello all! I am writing a series of essays on the trans experience. I’m looking for anything - ideas for another essay, points i could write about, your experiences if you want them used as examples, literally ANYTHING that could help!
I am writing one about nostalgia and how it’s affected by trans identity. The other essay is about cis people’s obsession with us and more specifically our bodies.
Some points I will bring up in the first: Can you miss a childhood you never got? How do trans people interpret old pics/vids? Do some trans people feel like they’re making up for lost time by transitioning?
Some points in my second essay: Why is trans healthcare so heavily gatekept? Why is transness reduced to hormones and surgeries? What is the diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria, and how is it harmful? How does this mirror other minorities experiences (fat, poc, etc)? How does this obsession feed anti transness?
Are you trans yourself?
Why are you writing essays about trans people?
I suggest reading a lot more before deciding to write about us (unless this is for a school assignment and the goal is precisely to learn, rather than influence).
Particularly I suggest reading first:
For non-fiction and memoirs to help you understand trans experiences:
For trans novels that should help you understand the trans experience better:
I am trans myself, I should have specified! This is honestly just a passion project. I’ve honestly always wanted to read Stone Butch Blues :) Thank you very much for the resources!
