My money is on “it’s just a fuckin rock you dumb apes”
The article suggests that the thing is soft, squishy and delicate, so a rock would seem highly unlikely. The speculation is stated to be that it might be some sort of egg case, or the remains of something like a dead sponge
I know this isn’t what it is, but to me it looks like an old rotting mushroom.
