This is all absurd, obviously, but:

The new subscription can be stacked with a Plus, Gold or Platinum subscription for access to more features, the company notes.

$499 and you don’t even get everything there is to get? You still have to pay for more? What in the fuck?

I’m kind of surprised that not a single state has yet.

Like the states that legalized weed have made a bonkers amount of tax money while the others continue to lose out to other states or the black market. And oh look, suddenly way less drug crime.

Legalize it, regulate it, then tax it. The Netherlands figured it out. Kind of surprised Nevada hasn’t taken their shot. A state could legalize it and watch their tourist and tax revenues skyrocket while likely lowering human trafficking to boot.

i honestly didn’t know sex work was still illegal hopefully there’s some society resurgence in support of them.

i feel like as a society if a topic isn’t trending in news nothing happens to it.

In most countries it still is and basically always was illegal. I wouldn’t hold your breath for the US any time soon, since half the states still can’t get their shit together to legalize a harmless plant, and the puritanical pushback from the federal level if a state attempted to legalize prostitution, especially with a conservative administration, would probably be swift and immediate.

I’m not against legalization of prostition or drugs, but the only thing The Netherlands figured out is that simply legalization doesn’t make the problems go away. Both drug crime and human trafficking are still a big issue.

Lots of states have casinos, this country loves to gamble. My understanding though is the brothels are highly limited in Nevada. Like, they are severely limited to where they can operate. There’s not actually any in Las Vegas, for instance.

It’s hardly the model we should be copying.

If you are at the point where paying $499+ a month looks like the only way you’ll ever have a significant other or even just sex just invest that money in therapy or drugs or a super high end sex doll or a high class hooker but not in fucking Tinder. Jesus.

I’m guessing the only purpose of this is to show you have fuck-me money. Which sounds like it might work very, very well.

But if that’s the case just go to a club a pay for bottle service or something and invite some women to drink for free. Probably have better luck than trying to be splashy on Tinder hahaha

The ability to direct-message others without matching.

So basically your privacy only goes as far as how much other people are willing to pay

Remember: Tinder doesn’t make money if you find love, because then you’d stop using the app. Tinder’s goal is to keep you using the app as long as possible by dangling the possibility of success without ever delivering.

If dating apps were barred from collecting any payments besides a one time entry fee perhaps they’d stop all these anti customers practices.

Good luck getting that to happen. Could probably happen in the EU if it hasn’t already, but in the US, you’d have better luck winning a SLAPP suit against the Cult (“church”) of Scientology in an area where they are legally allowed to file them against you.

Can we start a fediverse dating app?

I’m currently visiting the Ambien walrus writing this so forgive me if this idea is screwy, but I’d love to create a new space.

Oh not even that. Back when I used Tinder in 2019, and you were a guy, you pretty much had to buy Tinder gold or whatever it was.

Tinder limit your swipes, intentionally showed you dead profiles, and some other shit I forget.

Same with older people. If you’re older, Tinder costs more.

Tinder is a predatory app. They benefit from you NOT finding a match.

I know there’s no laws that allow the people of the USA to prosecute companies for business models that destroy the fabric of society, and I even fear that kind of law could be abused to prosecute abortion clinics and LGBT rights orgs…but dating apps make me wish there was.

Andrew Tate…PUAs…Red Pillers…it all only makes sense in a world where dating apps are the primary way we meet people.

I’m back on the dating scene in my early 30’s and I try to be hostile to their algorithm by force quitting and leaving the app closed which seems to trigger it to try and be more engaging.

I also tried gold only to have my filters just not work. Why would I be interested in matching someone 6000km away or someone with kids even though I’ve tried filtering them out? Ask Tinder I guess. Why would I pay for a service that doesn’t even work. Now that I’m not paying the “likes” seem to roll in even though I frequently run out of users for my area.

It just sounds like identifying rich sucker’s to be plucked like apples and slaughtered like fattened calves by the trickier woman of tinder.
