forgetting the camera for a second, imagine going on your honeymoon, renting an airbnb and being given a list of chores and washing to do before you leave

It’s pretty common for Airbnb hosts to give you a list of chores to do. Empty the bins, clear the beds, gather the towels up etc.

You didn’t answer the question. I’ll answer for you: no, there’s no mention at all in the article of chores being required before check-out.

It’s a valid discussion about airbnb in general, I guess, but it’s otherwise irrelevant to this specific news story.

Like they couldnt afford a housecleaner when charging $200 a night to cover their $1200 mortgage.

To add insult there is often a cleaning fee and they still give you a list of chores.

I think you and a lot of people here would be surprised how many people who the only thing stopping them leaving literal shit on the floors and rubbish everywhere would be these chore list and cleaning fees.

I don’t even run Airbnb, I’ve just worked hospo. People are fucking gross and lazy.

Yeah, thinking about how the general public leave our toilets at work, I shouldn’t have been surprised really.

I could never do that, I’d be too embarrassed of being caught out!

I would leave the house tidy and I’d clean any mess that I’d made (including washing the dishes) but I wouldn’t strip the beds or empty the bins unless asked.

This is pretty much a US-only thing.

Have never seen that in all the AirBNBs I’ve been to, I’m guessing that’s US only

In my experience of using Airbnb at least 15 times in Europe, maybe more, it varies, but never outrageous tbh. They did ask to put the garbage outside a couple times, but no biggie really. As for the dishes, they never asked me to do them, but I usually do them anyway cause I’m not gross (plus if there’s a dishwasher is really a no brainer) and they’ve never asked me to do anything with bedsheets.

I don’t know, I’ve never been really bothered by this. I’ve been more bothered by the fact that sometimes you try to reserve the house and they answer that it’s already reserved. Then why did you leave the dates open? So much time wasted…

I wouldn’t care if the price was good. Too many places cost as much as hotels, yet you get no hotel benefits.

Airbnb was good for normal travel for like two years.

I travel A LOT. After about the first two years it became obvious to me that unless I value my time at literally 0, a hotel is the better deal almost every time.

It might still be decent for getaways and places that don’t have any hotels. But otherwise I would never even open that shitty site.

If I’m paying a cleaning fee, I shouldn’t have to put out bins. I don’t mind doing washing up or filling the dishwasher, that’s all fine.
