I remember hearing this rumor when I was young, but basically when the rumor is that when you go to a auto repair shop, they will fix your initial problem, but in turn they will “break” another part of your vehicle so that you would return later and give them more money.

So are there any evidence of this happening? I doubt there’s actually proof about this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was.
