Do folks have a favorite adventure path here? I’m running Gatewalkers as a first time pf2e GM, and it has its ups and downs. Curious to hear any favorites
I am currently running age of ashes and agents of edge watch and playing in fall of plaguestone so it’s a bit to early to have a favourite.
Regarding Age of Ashes my group is currently in the second chapter. So far I like that AoA realy shows what things are possible with the second edition. I find combat a bit to tough but my group assured me that they like the difficulty, so I’ll continue playing by the book.
We are still at the beginning of AoE I like the opportunity of staying in one place for the whole AP, which allows a lot of foreshadowing. However I find Age of Ashes a bit more diverse gameplaywise.
I’ve been running Abomination Vaults and I really like it. I’ve also been interspersing side-quests from Troubles in Otari since it shares the same setting and we started off playing Pathfinder with the Beginner Box (same setting).
It’s my first AP in Pathfinder 2e and I’m really enjoying GMing it. It’s got a lot of classic dungeon crawling, neat loot, interesting monsters, and a good adventure hook.
I’m running The Abomination Vaults after having finished the Beginner Box. I’m probably only 20% in, but it’s quite good so far and I’ve heard nothing but people raving about it story wise.
I’m also running it on Foundry and I’m super impressed with the work they’ve done. I have to almost nothing for prep. Which is important because I don’t have hours a week to prep like I had to with d&d APs.
I got AV in the bundle earlier in the year, and I’m pretty keen to run it soon!
I’ve been reading up on PF2e since then, but haven’t had a chance to play. How easy do you think the beginners box and AV are to run for someone who’s a veteran DnD DM but never played PF2e before?
If you’re playing on Foundry, piece of cake. It is so well thought out, I can’t say enough about it. The beginning box is only lvls 1-2 so just a couple of sessions. But it slowly introduces you to the game and doesn’t feel overwhelming. And it transitions perfectly to AV.
AV is one of their earlier paths, so it’s a little hard as far as encounters gonif your group isn’t particularly strategic. AV assumes you’re starting at one, but honestly it was good to have levelled in the Beginner’s Box. But one significant change is that it penalizes you for just attacking three times and calling it done. The game is meant to be a bit more tactical than that. But all in all well worth it.
I’ve generally been very impressed with the foundry conversion modules. I like that they are even starting to experiment with building fun premium foundry experiences, like the Harrow Deck!
I just picked up the Harrow Deck (as well as all the bestiary tokens… I don’t have a problem, honestly!). It’s clear they put thought into it again and didn’t just slap something together.
Mechanically, they talk about the GM possibly wanting to stack the deck for narrative purposes. There’s a part in the module on Foundry where they stated they wanted the digital version to have the same functionality as the physical and programmed a way to stack the deck.
I honestly have nothing bad to say about the collaboration between Paizo and Foundry, and if anything they’ve spoiled me going forward.
