I don’t believe any oil company when they say they’re going to cut emissions or do anything “green”.

It’s all about profits for shareholders. As long as they get their cash, it’s the future generation’s issue.

i feel like literally all major oil-producing companies who say they want to eventually be net-zero should just be assumed as lying–like, what incentive do they have to not? lol

The oil majors are basically all still exploring for new oil, even though we’ve already discovered enough to exceed net-zero targets and blast past 1.5C.

They argue that new techniques are cleaner and greener in terms of lifetime emissions, which means they can lower their carbon footprint by developing new resources. Of course, the old fields still exist too. They just sell them off to private equity firms who don’t have public investors to worry about.

In this way, the oil majors can point to their commitment to lower emissions while still wrecking the planet.

Shell and all fossil fuel companies lie and have done for decades, simple as that. But will they stand trial for murder and ecocide? Like fuck they will.
