This reminds me of some of the other nostalgia for other limitations. Modern “chiptune” is just trying to replicate a sound due to some severe hardware limitations. I couldn’t find an older video that I thought existed. But this explains why gameboy music sounds the way it does. Also, enjoy some chip tone. The soundtrack from vvvvvv

There is also the reuse of sprites with different colors for different purposes. The creativity needed to build things on the limited hardware was amazing.
