After reviewing a recent post by the administrator of sh.itjust.works and comments from the community, we’ve decided to revoke the defederation action.

We’re hoping that proactive moderation strategies and development to Lemmy’s moderation tools help us avoid the need to defederate from instances like sh.itjust.works in the future.

Original defederation info:

  • Instance: sh.itjust.works
  • Type: Defederation
  • Affects: Pawb.Social (Lemmy) only
  • Reason: We defederated from sh.itjust.works due repeated abuse from users and the open-registration policy permitting this.

with the fall of reddit its a must have to at least ask if the user is not a bot.

Once moderation tools are developed to be able to handle this, is there a possibility that we federate with previously-defederated instances such as sh.itjust.works again?

We’re no longer defederating with them, but I wanted to make this post for transparency on why we originally did.

Given that the instance is now refusing to remove hate speech (see https://pawb.social/post/197865), as well as appearing to harbor a branch of T_D, should the re-federation be reversed?

I’m a fan of some of the communities on that instance, but I’m a bigger fan of having hate speech OFF my online forums. Thank you for continuing to kick butt, Crash!
