Edit/Update: Searching by !community@instance fails, searching by the full url works.
Original post: So if my understanding is correct, a Lemmy instance won’t be aware of a community on another instance until the first time it is searched from your home instance.
If that understanding is correct, then the process does not seem to be working from sh.itjust.works.
Examples:
!3d_printing@forum.rhombik.com
To try and get these communities visible from sh.itjust.works, I’m entering the search term as shown above into the Communties search field and smashing Search a few times. Normally there would be no results, but if you then search for just the community name it shows up as being connected - that’s no longer happening.
If I am misunderstanding or doing something wrong please let me know.
Edit: Searching for the entire url seems to work sometimes
Example: https://forum.rhombik.com/c/3d_printing - no joy
https://lemmy.world/c/makerstuff - worked!
https://kbin.social/m/3DPrinting - worked!
Edit: it appears the problem with !3d_printing@forum.rhombik.com is on their side - found a post where they were misconfigured and only federating with two other instances, and have ddos shields up.
I really hope they get this sorted. Fragmented communities would be fine, if one could find all of them in one go.
Same. Lots of growing pains! That’s ok though, it’ll all get sorted. And a silver lining might be that these growing pains help filter out the low-effort riff-raff maybe.
+1 same problem. Not sure if its sorted out yet. Still unable to join/connect.
I’ve put them all in my subscribed feed. I can see them from there.
How? I was able to get subscribed to !makerstuff@lemmy.world and !3DPrinting@kbin.social once they showed up in the community search (after searching by the url), but I still can’t see !3d_printing@forum.rhombik.com in order to subscribe to it.
Sorry not rhombik.
https://forum.rhombik.com/instances seems to be linked only on some instances : (as the time of writting) lemmy.ml mydomain.ml lemmy.world
From what I understand, it may be because they work with whitelisting, or because it’s too young and not federated/cached yet.
Compare this with : https://sh.itjust.works/instances
The list includes kbin.social now, but I still can’t get it to show on kbin no matter how I format my searches or urls.
So Rhombik sees sh.itjust.works, but sh.itjust.works doesn’t see forum.rhombik.com? Why?
Last time I checked they both didn’t see each other
Rhombik sees us: https://forum.rhombik.com/instances
That’s better than earlier. There was only 3 instances seen (named earlier in-line). Can we see their posts / subscribe on their channels now?
Nope.
I’m having the same problem.
Good to know it’s not just me, thanks
