He would have the author-self-insert heroes telling people that use the N-word that “Once they scrape you into the ground, your white-skinned body will become straight and exactly as much a stinking carcass as a negro corpse. And so many more incredibly woke things, like trash talking Christians that don’t respect all other humans and do evil shit…

I’m not advocating against a seatbelt, I’m advocating against not wearing it, “because I am confident that I can hold on to something in case of a collision” or similar stupid reasons. Expecting that blocking does anything to hide public posts that you can simply open in another browser (or in the same browser in private browsing mode) is not a seatbelt, it is the equivalent of a slightly stronger handle on top of the car window that is being advertized as a feature to protect you in case of an accident.

This change first and foremost makes it clear that that handle does nothing meaningful and that you should wear an actual seatbelt (follower-only posts, ideally with restricted followers) instead, if you are worried about a collision. Twitter is a public forum. You can’t tell people to leave you alone, shout with a megaphone across the marketplace and then be annoyed when they hear you. If you don’t want them to hear you, don’t use a megaphone.

I don’t like discord, but it is a MASSIVE improvement over all the meta-garbage. Stop using Facebook, instagram, whatsapp and really also twitter first. Discord is the smaller evil compared to those.

Yes forums have their application and are better than discord for a lot of things, but discord is really more a competitor to IRC-chats with a focus on life discussion, rather than long-living content. And it isn’t discords fault if some people completely misuse it as something that it really isn’t trying to be.

Need to use their bloated (web)app.

Which means that it works in a regular browser, which is so much better than a lot of other infrastructure that is increasingly mobile-app only.

Charges for basic functions.

Does it though? It charges for certain emojis and the like, but that is honestly a MUCH more healthy business model than what a lot of other places on the internet are doing. And if you just want to use it as intended, you really aren’t missing out on anything.

I’m really not saying that it is great, but I wonder whether some of the people ranting about this may get signal boosted by meta to distract from their even worse cesspool…

The argument here is literally about stalkers. Not about random uninterested people that don’t care.

The thing is that there really is no price, nor was there ever one. Your suggestion that you think there is demonstrates that the way blocking worked gave people dangerously wrong ideas. It’s about being clear to people what they can and cannot expect. Anything else is ACTUALLY dangerous.

As much as I despise Musk and Twitter and hope that both die a painful death, what is actually proposed here is honestly a change for the better: It’s not about preventing people from blocking users, it’s about blocked users being able to see public posts, which they could also see by just logging out. This is being honest about what a block does and avoids giving people a wrong sense of privacy that they simply don’t have on the platform. From what I’ve heard there is a possibility to post for followers-only which in combination with requiring approval to follow and that isn’t going away here either…

To be fair though: While circumventing that was as easy as logging out, the inability to see things while logged in was kinda stupid and gave people a false perception of privacy. In that setting that change is just a case of being honest.

With the ability to view posts without account largely removed, it’s a bit of a different story, but I have to admit that if it’s public on Xitter, it’s still kinda public, so hiding it still kinda missing the poin.

I call bullshit on this kind of product! This just reminds me too much of the phytoestrogens that ruthless scammers sell on places like Amazon to trick uninformed trans girls into giving them money and believing they receive some medication, when it does nothing whatsoever for them.

The only “phytoestrogens” that actually do something are “phytoestrogens” sold by trusted homebrewers that are labeled that way to avoid seizure at the border.

In order to achieve medical effects, you need proper medication, in this case probably Prolactin. (I’d have to check to make sure, but there are plenty of reports of trans women who succesfully induced lactation medically to feed their kids and had no problem whatsoever after that point.)

The criminal part is that woman-specific options are underconstructed and overpriced compared to men’s clothing. That, and the lack of pockets. Seriously, my heart goes out to anyone who wears clothing targeted to women. I’d be fucking lost without pockets.

Trans girl who sews her own clothing here: I’ve honestly stopped bothering to add pockets to my clothes, because my handbag has REALLY grown on me and takes care of most of the need. Seeing all the guys doing pocket-checks, when I just grep my handbag and have everything in it is almost getting funny at this point. 😊

That said: Fuck the fashion industry, for so many reasons, including for what they did to fashion! Like: Even if we ignored all the human-rights abuses, the trash quality that they produce, the needlessly bad impact on the environment and all of these things, and we really shouldn’t(!!), I just assume most people here have already heard about those, that industry still has no fucking idea of what personal style is and how to support it. It’s a bunch of business-assholes that decide that some thing X is “in” and then you get only that, with the difference between X and the previous X being minute details in the cut, but it still remains the same concept of short, narrow skirt for example.

You are looking for a ankle-length circle-skirt (=flat lying skirt, very wide)? Tough luck, sew it yourself, nobody offers that! You want a long dress with long sleeves? Yeah, that doesn’t exist! (Unless you sew it yourself, like I have, which gave me the most comfortable piece of nightwear I’ve ever owned that I’m even somewhat comfortable to wear in public if I add a visual seperation with some form of belt.) I could go on…

In short: The fashion industry has sold people on the insane idea that jeans with a slightly different cut are a different clothing-style. They are not!

Du vielleicht nicht, du nimmst es nur nicht ernst, aber die Sendung um die es hier geht hat sich definitiv darüber lustig gemacht.

Meine Beispiele sollten verdeutlichen, dass das eine mit Macht zu tun hat, also strukturell ein Problem ist und das andere individuelle Erfahrungen sind.

Nach der Logik wäre ein rassistisch motivierter Angriff durch einen einzelnen Bürger der keine besonderen politischen Einfluss hat kein Rassismus, weil der Täter ja keine besondere Macht hatte.

Du wirfst hier Rassismus und die Unterform des systemischen Rassismus zusammen. Rassistische Strukturen in der Polizei oder weitreichende rassistische Einstellungen von Vermietern sind Beispiele für die Unterform, der obige Angriff hingegen ist rassistisch aber in der Regel nicht systemisch.

Und niemand würde Roma allen ernstes zur dominanten Mehrheitsgesellschaft zählen, sodass sie nicht von Rassismus bedroht wären. Natürlich sind das rassifizierte Menschen, auch wenn sie weiße Hautfarbe haben.

Aka: Sie sind weiß und trotzdem Opfer von Rassismus. Was wiederum die Idiotie des Rassismus aufzeigt, weil man selbst wenn man an aussehensbasierte „Rassen“ glaubt, gerade Roma und die meisten europäischen Juden schlicht weiß sind. Aber wir haben ja sogar Rassismus gegen Polen…

Das ist ja der Aspekt in der Definition “weiß”. Da geht es nicht um Hautfarbe, da geht es um gesellschaftliche Vormachtstellung.

Und DAS ist eine rassistische Definition. Weiße mögen insbesondere in Europa und Teilen der Amerikas und Asiens die gesellschaftliche Vormachtstellung haben, aber das ist eben nicht universell und vielerorts einfach deutlich komplexer. Wenn du eine Gruppe die eine gesellschaftliche Vormachtstellung hat meinst, dann schreib das auch aus. Alles andere zeigt nur, dass du selbst rassistische Stereotype verbreitest, es aber okay findest, weil deine ja vermeintlich progressiv sind.

Deswegen braucht man für die individuellen Beispiele andere Begriffe wie Beleidigung oder so, denn Rassismus ist es nicht. Dafür fehlt die strukturelle Dimension.

Dein Problem ist, dass du Definitionen verwendest, bei denen es sich um politische Kampfbegriffe handelt die im Widerspruch zu den außerhalb deiner Blase universell anerkannten Begriffsbedeutungen stehen. Damit kannst du dann zwar Virtue Signaling betreiben, aber produktiv ist das schlicht gar nicht.

Weil es ganz objektiv Rassismus und nichts anderes ist.

Das eine ist halt ungleich belastender als das andere.

Ja. Aber du wirst Leute nicht von deiner Sache überzeugen können, wenn du dich über ihre Probleme lustig machst. Insbesondere weil du halt doch nie weißt ob bei der anderen Seite vielleicht Dinge vorgefallen sind oder Zusammenhänge vorliegen, die wichtig sind, der aber nicht bekannt sind. Du kannst auch nicht sagen, dass ein Trauma valider ist als ein anderes, nur weil die Vorfälle die es verursacht haben aus deiner Sicht weniger schlimm waren.

Und nehmen wir mal ein ganz banales Beispiel: Roma erfahren in sehr viele europäischen Ländern erheblich mehr Rassismus als Schwarze, obwohl sie weiß sind. Was zum nächsten Problem führt: Rassismus in Europa ist erheblich komplexer als in den USA und trotzdem werden hier zum Teil blind amerikanische Positionen übernommen, obwohl sie eigentlich nicht wirklich übertragbar sind.

Rassismus ist nie okay, und man erhöht die Verurteilung der einen Ausprägung nicht dadurch, dass man sich über andere Ausprägungen lustig macht. Im Gegenteil stellt man damit die Validität des gesamten Themenkomplex in Frage, weil man sich weigert gegen die Ursachen vorzugehen.

Ich fand es ehrlich gesagt ein bisschen durchwachsen:

• Der Mensch ist genetisch sehr einheitlich und die meisten Gene die variieren, variieren unabhängig von der Herkunft, ja. Daraus folgt aber noch nicht, dass die Gene die tatsächlich mit der Herkunft korrelieren nicht auch erhebliche Effekte auf andere Dinge als Aussehen, Laktose- und Alkoholtoleranz haben. Meines Wissens ist das im Wesentlichen nicht der Fall, aber das hätte diskutiert werden müssen.
• Ich habe mir tatsächlich drei von den Implicit Bias Tests angetan und bin nicht überzeugt: Ein Faktor der da mit rein spielt ist Ermüdung (gerade wenn man AD(H)S hat) und dass eine Umgewöhnung schwerer als eine Gewöhnung ist. Hinzu kommt die zum Teil fragwürdige Zuordnung von Begriffen: Geschichte und Musik als Geisteswissenschaft zu bezeichnen finde ich zum Beispiel eher sehr grenzwertig.
• Der „Rassismus gegen Weiße existiert nicht“ Teil war nicht gut. Es ist ja fair zu sagen, dass es andere Gruppen erheblich mehr und systematischer trifft, aber dafür ist es echt nicht nötig dann negative Erfahrungen von Weißen als harmlosen Unfug darzustellen: Die zu Grunde liegende Geisteshaltung ist genau so toxisch und wird nicht dadurch besser, dass es Leute trifft die es viel seltener trifft. Die richtige Einstellung hier ist zu sagen „ist scheiße und nicht in Ordnung und jetzt stell dir mal vor wie viel mehr und krasseres die Anderen abkriegen“, nicht „Die Anderen sind schlimmer dran, deswegen verdienst du, dass wir uns über deine Beschwerden lustig machen“. Ersteres zielt auf die Schaffung von Empathie, Letzteres verstärkt bestehende Animositäten.
• Die Präsentation ist vielfach einfach zu „Fernsehen für Dumme mit Blödeleien“ für meinen Geschmack.

Yeah, a good self-checkout is amazing and a competely different category from the garbage you see elsewhere.

In the Netherlands at Albert Heijn the only verification consists pretty much of occasional random checks and in the one closes to me they replaced two of the manual counters with eight self-checkouts, meaning that the queues are pretty much gone. You can also self-scan while shopping, if you want with your own phone in which case payment is 90% of the time just scanning a barcode and paying at a debit-card terminal.

And while you are not supposed to, nobody ever cares if you use your own backpack instead of a shopping basket/car, in which case you don’t even have to pack up your stuff. If you do get a random check with it, you just open it up wide and let the employee pick a few random items to scan and they won’t even say a word.

The only other delay is age-verification if you buy alcohol, which in my case means that an employee looks over from across the room and sadly decides that I’m an old enough fuck to not need my ID inspected. (Then again, being trans without legal stuff having happened yet (soon though!), it does make things easier.)

Could you steal? Of course, but you can do the same with regular counters!

Ich würde so weit gehen zu sagen, dass Chefs die mit ihren direkten Untergebenen nicht per Du sind im Allgemeinen ein Warnsignal sind. Wenn du so schlecht miteinander klar kommst, oder dir in deiner Autorität so unsicher bist, dass du dieses Maß an Distanzierung benötigst, dann ist das ein ganz schlechtes Zeichen. (Mag bei sehr alten Leuten noch anders sein, und auch Abhängig von der Industrie sein, aber im akademischen Umfeld in der Informatik würde dich niemand mehr für voll nehmen, wenn du so was abziehst…)

Sowas habe ich nie erlebt, weder in Deutschland noch im Ausland.

Dann fehlt die Auslandserfahrung. Siezen ist in sehr vielen Ländern absolut unüblich. Deutschland ist mit dem im Vergleich noch eher verbreiteten Sie da tatsächlich eher die Ausnahme.

Das macht einen Unterschied ob es beleidigend gemeint ist und ja, Menschen sind in der Regel in der Lage den Unterschied zu erkennen. Das ist wie wenn du Transmenschen misgenderst: Wir können erkennen ob das Dummheit oder Böswilligkeit war.

Bin in den Niederlanden und hier ist das Duzen praktisch universell. Bei uns am Lehrstuhl will Niemand von Studis mit irgendetwas anderem als dem Rufnamen angesprochen werden.

Ich habe bis vor fünf Jahren in Karlsruhe studiert, da war die de-facto Regel, dass fast alle nicht-Professoren pauschal geduzt haben und geduzt wurden. Professoren wurden von Studenten in der Regel gesiezt, aber auch da gab es Ausnahmen, denen dass zu blöd war.

Selbst in der Schule habe ich mittlerweile schon von Fällen gehört in denen einzelne Lehrer mit der Klasse per Du waren, insbesondere in der Oberstufe.
