  • That’s probably true, and for that matter, even if you imagine a truly colorblind society exists for the next 100 years, it seems likely that inherited wealth and privilege would still be passed down.

Having said that, AA was not a very good remedy. It laser focused on only one thing, sometimes disregarding a clear reality. In an extreme example, if you took someone like David Steward’s kids, they would benefit from affirmative action despite being born to a billionaire.

Keep in mind, colleges and universities can still provide all the advantages they want based on other signals. Good ones might be family income and first-generation college students.

  • It’s explained in the first paragraph:

THE CLASSIFIEDS DOCUMENTS THAT Donald Trump is charged with mishandling were marked “SECRET” or “TOP SECRET,” the highest classification we afford our nation’s secrets. By definition, the uncontrolled release of that information could be expected to cause “serious” or “exceptionally grave” damage (respectively) to our national security.

That’s a bit more than merely classified documents.

Also, of course, Biden’s lawyer found the documents and immediately figured out how to get them properly stored. It took an FBI raid to recover Trump’s stolen documents, and not all of them have been found at that.

The situation is basically this: Biden found some classified documents, turned them in. Trump willfully and purposefully stole state secrets and did everything he could to keep them. It’s the difference between right and wrong. What Trump did was wrong, and it was intended to harm the United States.

  • It’s not just cheap labor, it’s making regular jobs into a “hustle gig.” That shit is toxic and turning ordinary people against each other.

It shifts all of the risk onto customers, all of the costs of doing business onto the employees, while the businesses running these services just take all the value for themselves. The other day, I spent $100 to sign up for Target “same day delivery” services for a year, thinking great, I love the idea.

Then I learn it’s a tipped profession. I’m paying $100 to pay someone else “whatever I feel” to bring me groceries. I’d much rather it worked like normal, shipped goods. The mailman isn’t working a “hustle” to get me gigs and then over-compensating for tips. The guy who takes my trash is paid by the city, not working for the kindness of strangers.

We need to get rid of tipping and get rid of the gig economies. If you want to start a service, here’s a novel idea: hire employees and pay them a living wage.
