Was also a reddit lurker before joining lemmy. It’s been pretty good so far! The only issue I had was that my first password was too long but it still let me make the account, so I couldn’t log in until I reset it to a shorter one. Other than that no issues other than thing occasionally taking a while to load. Loving the friendly community!
To me it’s by far the most “Gen-1” product Apple has shown in a long time. I saw someone say that it feels like they wanted to make AR glasses but the tech wasn’t ready yet, and I have to agree. I do hope it will succeed, but I’ll need to see the next few iterations to be really sold on it.
Great to hear, thanks for the tip!
Not the original commenter, but I can give you a little info. For resources, the main source is https://2e.aonprd.com/ it’s the official SRD, for free. All non-AP materials are released there, so for character creation and running your own campaign it’ll have almost everything you need. I haven’t had the chance to play myself yet, my group is at the end stages of a 5e campaign, so I can’t offer much from a players perspective for switching systems, but I hope that link helps you!
Currently playing in a Theros 5e campaign. I say Theros but it’s really window dressing for whatever random ideas our DM comes up with. It’s so much fun! We’re at the tail end of the campaign but our DM has loads of ideas so he’s dragging it out to get more of them in, which is fine by us. We’ll be moving to PF2e for our next campaign, which I’m really looking forward to. We’ve considered moving the current campaign over with the OGL drama, but most of characters can’t be converted over easily.
The API changes were what pushed me over the edge. I had been sick of Reddit for years, but every other service I tried to move to was basically just getting its links and news from Reddit a few days later, so I just dealt with it so I could be informed.
I needed a critical mass of people to pick a service, and it looks like Lemmy is the place!
I’m also wondering about this. I remember seeing Tildes promoted a few months ago but haven’t seen any mentions of it recently.
I have a modded 3DS with a lot of games loaded onto it, but I haven’t used it in quite a while. I’m mainly a PC player, so I use retroarch for older systems (up to n64) and standalone emulators for newer systems. The next game on my list is to try Red Dead Redemption again. RPCS3 has gotten better since the last time I tried it, so hopefully my laptop can handle it!
Exactly what it looks like to me. This is clearly an attempt at driving up revenue for the upcoming IPO, but I think there’s a little more to it.
We all know that Reddit depended on third party apps for years before releasing their own, which is full of ads and all the other features they cram in there that long-term users don’t care for.
To me it looks like they’ve planned for this move to drive out long-term users, who remember old Reddit before the crazy amounts of ads, and will still have the people who will tolerate the official app, and the many people who have only ever used new Reddit and the app, and of course are used to the ads.
I think they’ve underestimated just how many of their mods and content contributors are using/dependent on third party apps.
