I totally get where you’re coming from but I think humanity’s tribal nature makes us want to identify with something on the platform we’re on… Some type of name that defines all of us.

Lol I think over my 11 years on reddit I only had 1.6k karma… And while I love internet points as much as the next guy it’s much healthier not to even see an overall count on here. Makes me hope that they don’t add it so I don’t have to be constantly worrying about what my overall score is.
Agreed, especially with how new Lemmy is, it just really feels like it needs our engagement to succeed and get more people to join.
This. I usually try to avoid commenting just “This” and try to give more explanation why I’m saying that. Feel like that’s the proper way of doing it.
Yeah I recently signed up for an account there and am going to explore kbin as well!
Yeah after I commented on this post I made one and have been more active within my first 24 hours on Lemmy than I have in my 11 years on Reddit.
Ironically enough, Reddit. I also use Google News on the side but most of the time I’m going to go to Reddit to see the discussion, which is why I kind of am missing that on here.
Hopefully with more users we’ll get more content and be able to replicate that experience!
Lol okay so basically:
I don’t think that’s possible since each instance is kind of a silo from each other with regard to your activity on that specific instance, even if you post on other instances… Like since you made a comment/post on one instance that activity stays on that instance.
Something that I will call out is that I really appreciate the live changes in the thread on the website itself. Makes interacting with comments and everyone a lot easier.
That’s right, your credentials are unique to your instance.
It’s accessible from every instance that is Federated with the other. So for example if I’m on sh.itjust.works and there’s a Nintendo community on lemmy.ml, I would be able to access it just by searching !nintendo@lemmy.ml for example. The same goes for other communities on other instances, you would just replace lemmy.ml with the instance url.
And definitely taking a mental health break from social media is totally ok! I actually had to do a paper on the mental effects of social media in university so I totally understand where you’re coming from.
Yup! I personally don’t really care how many upvotes/downvotes/ratio I have, or karma or whatever. I just post based on my interests and ask questions/make posts that reflect what I want to know/am interested in.
This. Being able to move to a different instance if your main one is down and being able to host your own are very much pros to this.
Truly feels more like a PR stunt than anything…
Ever since Bing introduced their AI stuff I’ve been trialing it + Edge on my main computer. It’s not so bad but sometimes I do need to use Google to actually find what I’m looking for. Currently using Google on everything else though. The AI stuff is actually pretty good but I feel like if Google makes their implementation more widespread most people are just going to use that vs Bing.
Thanks for this!
I agree with everyone here on this, Lemmings is appropriate. Especially since most of the community likes it, I think choosing something that the community vibes with is important.
