I wouldn’t accuse him of doing it for views (he gets enough of those), but he is just not much of an expert when it comes to software in my opinion.
Valhalla seems to be running quite well (I haven’t played it myself though) and I personally don’t think it’s gonna go on sale for much less for the summer sale, but who knows.

How does that work? I know that it’s an option on Mastodon, but from what I understand, this is yet to be implemented into Lemmy.

SearXNG, self-hosted auf meinem home server. Ich muss somit niemandem vertrauen, dass der angebliche Datenschutz auch eingehalten wird (was sowieso ein Witz ist, wenn es sich nicht um FOSS handelt).
Telegram’s backend is proprietary software and they (very similarly to Discord for example) can just decide to read your chats whenever they want. It’s even worse then WhatsApp in this sense (at least as long as you trust Facebook that they actually encrypt your chats, again, there is no way to know if it’s proprietary software).
