Maybe when it comes to shows, but the Ancient Aliens doom wad is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Honestly deserves to be made into a standalone game.

Edit: fuck, I cannot stress enough how good that mod is. My jaw repeatedly hit the floor when I played it for the first time. Not because it uses some crazy modern GZDoom black magic, but because it’s just so. fucking. good.

MAP01 is the most memorable intro to a doom wad I’ve ever seen.

The visual theme of Culture Shock is such a tonal whiplash compared to the rest of the wad that I had to keep stopping to think about what I was playing.

The centerpiece of Illuminati Revealed infinitely spawns enemies and keeps you on your toes.

Wormhole Junction is just… chef’s kiss.

    It’s all so fucking good.

And the teleporter effects. Oh my god the teleporter effects. I’ve never seen a game, ANY game, have the same kind of visual effect. Hell, the closest any game has come to having a similar visual theme is Uru: The Ages Beyond Myst, and that’s not even a first-person shooter.

I knew Ancient Aliens was considered a 10/10 by the doom community for a while, but I had avoided it because I thought it was gonna be kinda cheesy like Batman Doom or something. No. It’s fucking amazing.

fr, one of my favourite wads of all time, i used to stream myself playing it to them and then they’d stream themselves playing myhouse.wad bcs they werent good enough at the game to deal with ancient aliens, imo the first episode will always be my favourite though because the whole collision of the mayan / sci fi aliens / standard doom aesthetics is just so cool (also bcs ive played the first episode through on its own so many times when ive just got a little bit of time to kill)
