Got the news this morning but haven’t brought myself to tell anybody yet so you’ll be the first. I did the glucose resistance test last week and it seems I have type 2 diabetes. I felt fine during and after the tests so I thought maybe I’d be ok but apparently not so much.

It was almost inevitable, I think, considering dad and I are so similar and he has it. I’m still processing it though. I don’t think I have any of the symptoms of it but no doubt if I don’t start managing it they’ll start popping up. This is my first real health issue. Never broken a bone or had to go to hospital besides normal infant stuff. Not as invincible as I suspected.

Definitely sucks getting old. My dad had type 2 as well. Diagnosed after multiple heart attacks & strokes. Type 2 can be managed with diet & exercise. It’s not the worst.

I had an interview today for the exact sort of time I want at a place I’d be happy to work for. If that works out I’d start at the end of the month, so right when my 2 weeks pay from the old place would go up to.

If this works out I’m pretty much getting a 2 week holiday before starting work I actually enjoy

Alrighty. One more sleep to the gig!

Now the excitement is building up 🎶🎸

Jesus christ it’s fucking hot on this train. Sweating buckets. Poor dude near me looks like he thinks I’m a biohazard

Edit: bought a spare set of strings just in case. I’m glad I have a couple of hours after work to just chill out beforehand.

So I tried Five Guys last night

Fries = legit, still had a really nice texture even after a journey in the front of my scooter in the rain. Massive serving. There’s a station at the back of the ordering line where you can fill your own tubs of ketchup, mayo and malt vinegar, so your chips get sauces and stuff entirely to your liking

Burger = got a cheeseburger. Thought it was decent; probably not worth as much as it actually cost, but I did like being able to customise it fully for no extra charge.

Shake = basic vanilla for testing purposes, was thicc

I wouldn’t go out of my way to go to Five Guys again, but if you’re in the area it’s pretty solid fast food

More deets on the shake? Worth $11? Would try a peanut butter + choc one personally. Agree with your overall sentiment.

If you loaded it up - which you can, they’re customisable - it might be. Basic vanilla sans loading is not…but I did that on purpose to judge the blankest canvas, so that’s on me.

The texture’s insanely thick and rich. I see potential, if not perfection

The combo that appeals to me personally is banana, peanut butter and (maybe) Biscoff. It does seem to be real bananas - I saw some real bananas going in when I was waiting

I can’t tell whether you are talking about a chocolate burger, or putting bacon into a chocolate shake. Either choice is interesting.

Chocolate milkshake, and bacon is a possible mix-in! Didn’t try it because I’m not a fan of bacon. Might be interesting though.

Tinyest’s language comprehension appears to have exploded. Still limited words back, but answers are starting to form. Last night I asked him if he wanted to get out of the bath. He shakes his head and says something similar to “nuh”. I asked if he wants a bottle, he ponders for a second and goes “Yeh” and starts climbing out of the bath. Blew my mind. Didnt realize he was there yet.

Loads of them in Southbank. Drive around that area around 7-8pm. Prime time of day for people to be home and awake. Entire apartment buildings are 75% dark.

I’m not certain whether this will be the same. I truly can’t see how they can be valued at $9.5M. Who the hell is going to buy them? 4 Bedrooms suggests families. But any family with that much to spend isn’t going to want their kids on a busy corner and no yard to run around in.

While it’s derelict, there’s a 4-bedroom house/yard going for $2M a few hundred meters away. You could spend a Million totally renovating that place and really sprucing it up and still move in before this building is finished. And for a third of the price.

Foreign buyers. Simple as that. Buying a property here ensures safety of their money (talking about China specifically). Whether it’s buying through a shell corp or a local agent/entity, those places are not there to be lived in. They’re just there to safeguard cash.

Not to mention to beef up a property folio for an agency and artificially inflate the value of the building.

From memory, foreign ownership rules have tightened up, but there’s plenty of loopholes still.

The land tax component is getting severe for property banking of this sort. Most of Melb’s accountants are in panic mode right now with their property investor/developer clients going apeshit over the new requirements. Especially when their trusts need to have a specific ‘no benefit to foreign residents’ requirement bolted on. There are five different pieces of legislation that discriminate benefits from trusts/super funds going to foreign residents - and the definition of foreign resident is very very broad when you look at all the five Acts.

For sure, that’s the target market - but the trick only works if the property holds that value in the first place. I don’t see 9.3M value here, no matter how you twist and stretch it.

Even if the price drops by 50% when selling, that’s still 4.5 million AUD, which is much safer than the CCP taking away all your assets and liquid funds in China.

The security is worth the potential drop.

We may not see it, but banks and buyers will. Those are the parties that matter. It’s an absolute shit show but that’s the unfortunate reality.

This could be wild optimism on my part, but I really hope Gen Z can change workplace culture, and the world for the better.

Because I’m sorry to say Boomers really fucked it up. Gen X and Millennials raised by boomers are too damaged and drained to fight the man.

Millennial here and while I’m generalising, I don’t think our generation is following in boomer footsteps in setting workplace culture. Although the biggest change to workplace culture in my lifetime has been thanks to a global pandemic, with the boomers now trying to pedal us backwards.

Biggest thing I’ve noticed with my millennial colleagues is that they see the job as a job and have very little loyalty to a ‘company’. If the wages and conditions are right, they’ll stay and work. If they’re shit, workers will leave and find something better.

The boomer (and GenX to an extent) mentality is still very much ‘find a job and stick it out’.

Until I started my current role (almost 7 years) my longest tenure before that was 3 years, over a 15 year career.

I would get asked in interviews about ‘job hopping’ and would simply say that I can handle a bad situation for so long. Mind you some of those were being made redundant, but older people couldn’t believe I would leave a job.

And honestly, why be “loyal” to a company when they will neck you the minute it serves their interest. They reap what they sow.

It’s a very old school way of thinking. Back when loyalty actually mattered, sure.

I’ve said in an interview ‘I’m loyal to my family and keeping a roof over their heads, work is work’. Ended up getting the job, but declining it.

Uni meeting didn’t go as badly as i thought, but I’ve been feeling really out of it and congested most of the rest of the day. Brain really has taken a battering after the past few days and there’s no rest in sight as I’ve got a major job ahead with cleaning up the house for inspection next week, and also starting to line up rental inspections myself (fuck that noise majorly, but I got no choice).

It’s a real effort to try and relax and not constantly feel like I should be doing something

One more practice tomorrow before the gig and that’ll do.

Edit: even with a migraine I’m going. Not to tempt fate, but still.
