Dark Souls 2 has a mechanic to swap your character’s gender whenever you want to. From is already okay with genderfluid protagonists.
You have to fight a bunch of ogres about it though, so business as usual.
There was an outrage about that either back when Dark Souls 2 came out, or when they added that to the game - I vaguely remember there not being anything worth note just after the game came out. Either way, “some people” freaked out about it, and the controversy got some wind in the sails due to the gamergate culture war being a thing back then.

Elden Ring already has gender fluidity, a strong female POC, people with physical and mental disabilities, and homosexual implications. “Wokeness” should be the least of their concerns about what Sony could do to From.
Elden ring already has body A body B customization. These chodes have never played elden ring and may be Russian.

The very idea of having a choice feels threatening to their tiny minds. Like, just choose to be a white cis man if it’s really all that important to you.
Not to mention everybody will have pronouns now! Previously we were just referring to the individuals by the individuals’ names, of course.
Why would they? Actors, politicians, etc openly show hate and there’re no meaningful consequences. It’s accepted now…

Any time sometime terrible happens, the worse people will try and claim it as a victory. Sony buying From Software is terrible, but not because of some imagined spector called DEI.
I’m more concerned with having to get a Sony PSN account to play my steam game.
And the possibility of it turning into a Playstation exclusive once again. Or at the very least a game developed for Playstation with a terrible PC port.
Yep, the main thing I worry about. But the parent company that the Sony is considering buying owns only like 65% of From Software. So maybe from software will have some leeway and they can put their foot down and say they don’t want to use PSN. Maybe? Hopefully? Otherwise, elden ring will be the last game that I bought from them.
And having to wait a year and a half.
Or longer, if they decide to go the bloodborne route.

What if from software makes a character that’s biologically male, but gets raised as a woman because of his moon powers? That would be so woke.
What if From Software made a chracter who can swap sexes at will but struggles with two mutually antagonizing personalities and made them the main boss of their next game? That would be so woke.

I mean, I get it - as a gamer myself, when buying a new title I don’t really care about things like if the game is fun or good or has a healthy community/playerbase, these things don’t matter. How many non-straight characters are there, now that’s much more important - in fact, if you feature too many it might bring the end of the western world or something.
Sometimes characters in my games have pronouns and I still play those games, but I’m always weirded out by it. Why do people need to talk about them and not use only their name?

What’s Nextdoor?
It’s original intention was to create hyper local groups of neighbors to help each other and support local businesses etc. It turned into Karens complaining about everything, full of people who don’t know how to use Google, and the worst users of Facebook, Craigslist and Yelp rolled into one.
