YT shorts can be blocked (at least visually anyway) with the Untrap for YouTube extension. It also lets you modify many other settings, such as hiding comments, view count, the channel name, individual buttons, etc. It’s quite good. That and SponsorBlock are the real heroes.

Ya, the problem is I primarily use a shield TV (on my TV) and I know there are things I can sideload but meh, I just cannot be bothered.
I can hide them for 30 days at a time on my PC and they don’t riddle my feed
