How do people feel about getting !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone ? Mods over there donāt really seem cooperative, but itās not like it matters that much now?

yeh so far seems like weāll just coexist :3
coexistence? no. meme war. post more and better until victory!
Iāll just vent here quickly because I donāt want to create another post on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com, but still would like talk about it for a bit.
@Sunshine@lemmy.ca informed me that Iāve been banned from !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=12093216
Seems like they considered this post (see below) harassment, but it took them a while, as I was still able to post there for a while after posting it: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/search?q=+&type=Comments&listingType=All&communityId=2942&creatorId=12093216&page=1&sort=New
I guess they just donāt like criticism.
Still a bit surprised by one of the mods statements
Well, no, !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone still hasnāt been transferred to !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone mod team. But as we stated in the post weāre currently in, it doesnāt matter that much.
Here is an updated (so hopefully harassment-free version of the post:)
Ping @spujb@lemmy.cafe @TwiddleTwaddle@lemmy.blahaj.zone @a_wild_mimic_appears@lemmy.dbzer0.com, thank you for defending my perspective.
yeh I saw that, I dont think ur post was harassment but I do kinda get theyd feel that way with all the hate theyre getting XP I do feel like it was a bit too much posting that on their community, would have made more sense on this community but anyway I think we should stop talking about that now that it seems the drama has mostly ended :3
Seems reasonable, thanks š
I absolutely knew this was coming. I held onto this comment exchange specifically because I knew they would drop the hammer-
How this is anything other than a threat, when said by someone with authority, Iāll never know. As far as whether or not itās harassment, I canāt see the one you did link, but if you called them a name, then thatās definitely not okay. However, I will add that as a mod, if you get asked a question in public and donāt reply to it, you can absolutely expect the commenter to keep asking it. That isnāt harassment so much as itās expected human behavior.
Part of being a mod is agreeing to deal with even the most insistent, possibly annoying people. Itās not against the rules to be insistent or annoying, so you really need either the patience of a school teacher, or the rigid clenched fist of an authoritarian. My go-to move was, anytime someone annoyed me in such a way that I felt I couldnāt answer without overstepping, Iād flag a different moderator and ask them to respond. You donāt have to actually engage if youāre worried someone will raise your blood pressure. Thatās why you need a team. And communciation!
The post was called āDelusional mod ruleā, not sure if that qualifies as a name in this case
Oh I remember that!
Oof. Yeah. Well, I feel like this was probably a PTB sitch but also one we could easily see coming. They canāt have you commenting in their domain and showing people the mistakes they made.
In the meantime, I havenāt seen them comment on what happened publically and not receive a ton of displeasure from the crowd. Any particularly loud voices are going to be targeted anyway they can be, and yours, being that you posted to YPTB (where they were again flamed in the comments) is an easy one to single out.
Feeling sorry for @curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com who wrote a long post with all the issues but never got any answer

Yes! This is exactly the thing. So if that user was like, more online, they might have followed those mods around asking them to answer this post. Then, they would have banned them for harassment, since they were following the mods around, and that would āsolveā them never answering the big post.
Oh Iām on and watching. Just watching for now.
(I work from home and have a LOT of monitors in my office, so a single browser is easy peasy)
Edited to add: Iāll be following up in the very same thread BTW. Just giving them a full day.
God I hope Iām there when it happens so I can post an image macro of Gandalf the White.
They asked, I obliged.
Iām just glad I started with the quoted part, or it would have been an even longer comment without a reply!
Though I never expected an actual response anyway.
The whole thing was a mess, itās crazy š
Hereās the thing - Iām on Lemmy a lot throughout the day, but I mostly just browse and upvote.
I like blahaj, was going to sign up there actually, but I think db0 is more aligned to me, so Iām staying here. That said, 196 was a fun, silly place to go to when Iām feeling overloaded/stressed/whatever, and its really pleasant to know it was a hate-free space. Just a little comfort spot of ridiculousness.
Iām only commenting a lot now because they are willing to let hate in (whether they realize that or not did not and does not matter). Iām glad to see so many others took issue in the same way.
For the record, I kind of agree with the outcome here. The mods are getting enough pushback and you escalating it to name calling did not advance the wellbeing or outcome for either side.
Thatās fair.
I was just being really frustrated with that mod not having a local account, and not being recognizing that was an issue. Thatās basic knowledge that every mod has that you wonāt get the reports from a non-local account.
When you go through this comment from Ada, itās even more blatant that Ada had to do the heavy lifting on the moderation: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/20976989/12493554
People are allowed to make mistakes, to be clueless. But trying to throw Ada and Blahaj under the bus because they didnāt just cared enough to create a post on Blahaj meta community just seemed weird to me.
adaās post was literally to clarify that the mods of c/196 were doing things, thereās just some issues with federation that led to them experiencing friction with their differing moderation styles
i agree that she probably had a hand in influencing the culture and vibe of the community, but to say that she was doing the heavy lifting seems like youāre missing the entire point of her post
Thatās what I based myself upon. Obviously, she doesnāt give metrics, but still seems like the alt issue was communicated and should really have been addressed or even just acknowledged at some point.
again, in the quote, it says they did mitigate it and that it just ānever entirely went awayā
iām not saying that they couldnāt have done more, or that it didnāt add to adaās workload. but they did at least do something about it. it was acknowledged, it was addressed (albeit poorly)
it sounds like it was kind of irritating for ada and itās probably not very convenient to constantly remember to swap to your alt, so i understand how this conflict is happening. i think itās more an issue around the nuances of federation and maybe even how the lemmy codebase itself handles it and possibly sucks in this case
but mostly, it seems like an issue between ada and the mods, notā¦ the community and the mods. thereās plenty to rag on them about here without including this issue. they still have clear ideological differences about moderation, they still obviously thought the community belonged to them and it was their choice to migrate it and where. those are still VERY problematic and more than enough to dislike them and call for them to stand down
Oh, definitely. But to nuance what I said above, it was the straw that broke the camelās back: how can you literally say āitās fine, I donāt need a local account so that I can actually mod here, and anyway it wasnāt my fault because Blahaj never gave me one!ā Like, seriously? And the issue here was the tone used to talk to the community.
