Processing about 2.4kg of fresh frozen cannabis.
My technique definitely needs to be improved, but that’s why we do this stuff and learn right?
I’m washing it 4 batches of 600g each. Next time I’ll probably make them smaller still.
I also feel like I am adding too much ice, even though I add less each time… the stuff frosts up and I’m sure it’s not getting the stuff in between the denser buds.
Even though, the returns are decent I would say, and I’m saving the washed bud for edibles, so nothings wasted. I’ll dial in the technique for next run. I collect the trichomes from the 25 and 74 micron bags, I’ll keep them separated and from there I’ll press it into hash rosin.
Picture is from batch 1/4
Second wash of the last batch from the 73 micron screen.
I’d recommend being a bit more gentle. Note the green color. That means there’s a decent amount of chlorophyll in there, which can be reduced by reducing the intensity/time in the washer.
You can always do multiple washes to extract more product, but always try to make the first wash the best so you can have some top shelf.
If you really want to go fancy with it, you can make a hash ball and age it. Frenchy Canolli has good info on how to do this, and also great info about hash making in general.
What’s the bucket in the first shot you’re using? Is it just a bucket with the wet weed or does it have all the filter layers in there letting it do its thing? My shit was so ghetto when I was making bubble hash, that thing looks super nice. Lol
I guess to answer a Q I maybe missed. When it comes out of the washer it goes through 3 more bags. I use a 160 micron to catch debris, then a 73 micron to catch the “desirable” portion. And I use a 25 micron to catch what would be otherwise waste.
Haha, so I’ve got a 220 “work bag” that goes in the washer. When it gets poured out I go into a 160 to collect the debris.
The blue is another 220 that I’m using to just let the washed bud drain out so it’s not so wet when I get to processing to for edibles. It was to show the frosting that I think is getting in the way of optimal washing.
The washing machine is amazing, I tried doing it by hand, but this is better, and I’ve got carpal tunnel, so tying to save work regardless anyways.
Is there a reason you’re doing a wet wash vs dry ice? I’ve never done a water wash before, it always seemed unnecessarily messy and I’ve never been confident about freeze drying without a proper freezer dryer.
I did a bit of research before buying my hashi-washi (Bubbleator machine) and I was very intrigued. But it looks…unsafe? I don’t want to handle my weed with protective gloves and googles. Washing is messy and the cleaning sucks. But I kind of want to keep my fingers.
Ahh, I already work in a lab setting. I guess I forget people can be uncomfortable around something like dry ice. Fair point.
Ignorance?
Ive been following a few guides to make “live rosin” carts, which from my (ignorant, not a lot of information is easily available on this wonderful plant) googling has come up with bubble hash, to hash rosin to live rosin carts. Seems to be the cleanest way to get something to be able to put in cart and vape.
Trying to avoid chemicals as much as possible, so BHO and stuff is right out, don’t know how dry ice weighs in.
Dry ice is just carbon dioxide compressed from gas to a solid. So when it evaporates it just transfers directly to a gas, leaving no residue. It is usually a lot cleaner and has a higher yield than bubble hash.
I would suggest looking up dry ice hash, it’s a lot less labor intensive and imo tastes better. Basically the hardest thing about it is finding the dry ice if you’re in a rural area.
I’ll look into it, but idk how the wife would feel about risk with that. I went with this route since it’s less labor intensive than other routes. Yes I know I’m paying a premium otherwise, but health factors playing as well.
Haha, yeah I guess dry ice has a bit more of a safety factor than just plain cold water. But it really isn’t all that dangerous with some basic precautions.
The hash machine is amazing, I’m using an igloo cooler and a wooden spoon like a neanderthal.
How is the strength when you do edibles with washed bud? That seems like it would be kind of unreliable to dose
I use a Bubbleator with 70μm and 45μm bags, its working great. Maybe 25 is a bit too small?
I don’t have one between 73 and 25, so trying to not waste the undesirable portion anyways.
It’s gonna get pressed through a 25 micron screen when I press it for rosin anyways.
