The irony that they’re most likely using the Reddit API to show how many subs are going dark in real time…

Hey. I’m seeing the TOTAL reddits number go up.

Why’s it going up? Are there really 600 new subreddits created in one day?

Someone on the Twitch stream was saying it was 50. That was … an hour ago? Two?

Is there chicanery? How many new subs are created per hour on a normal day?

That’s the question. 5 hours ago it was only x/6001 subs dark. Now it’s

        5497 out of 7047

So that’s like 1046 new subs in ~5 hours, as reported by Reddark.

I thought that wasn’t the total subreddit number? Isn’t it the number signed up at modcoord?

Fun thing to do: open Reddark, enable sound, and leave it open. It’s like preparing popcorn - you want to hear the noise to speed up, then you check it when it slows down, hoping that it’s ready.

I must admit I did not expect such a wide turnout for the blackout. There’s absolutely no way something this massive goes unnoticed by investors, although I doubt it will cause anyone to change course. Hell, even if they do change course I’m fucking done with Reddit.

Hopefully, at least it shows everyone that Reddit is nothing without the communities formed by their users, and how important accessible third-party API access is to Redditors who genuinely care about the website.

This is my first time watching an online community I’m part of disintegrate in such a violent way. It’s surreal. And the reddark list showed some subs I didn’t know existed, but wish I had. Oh well.

Think of it like that gif of a worm blasting off into gametes. Many more worms will result as of this.

Yeah I know that. It’s still sad to watch it crumble for such stupid reasons (like spez).

That’s a lot. All my subs have gone private. Mad respect. Miss them though. The content that is. Fuck reddit. Lemmy ftw

Given that this is a counter, I’m loving it far more than I expected. I purged my history and I’m all in on Lemmy.
